Abandon All Hope

Worth noting: this is enough to make me abandon all hope in America. It is the prosecution of an elderly American who deeply believes in the idea of jury nullification, which involves juries not only finding a person innocent of whatever they have been accused of but also nullifying the law itself. The prosecutor’s argument is that it isn’t legal to encourage this behavior near a courthouse, something which is plainly untrue in any reasonable person’s mind.

This prosecutor simply doesn’t want people telling her what she can and can’t prosecute. She doesn’t believe herself to be an employee of the people, but rather a dictator over them. That is shocking.  And the bigger problem is that nobody above her is telling this prosecutor that she is insane, that she is acting in a manner that is frankly unAmerican by its very nature. If a person isn’t free to advocate against an aggressive government, then the “freedoms” he does enjoy are worthless. And while I recognize that conceptually, the idea of rights are ridiculous, this specific case highlights the fallacy of the rights we are supposed to enjoy as citizens.
